Treatment of Bacterial Infections Using Generic Amoxil Capsules

Generic Amoxil Capsules (Novamox) – Product Information

Generic Amoxil is a penicillin class antibacterial which is used for treatment of infections due to susceptible strains of designated microorganisms. It is used to treat infections of the ear, nose, throat, genitourinary tract, skin and skin structure, and lower respiratory tract. It is also used together with other medicines for treatment of H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease. The active ingredient contained in Novamox Capsules (Generic Amoxil) is Amoxicillin.

Contraindications

Generic Amoxil is Contrainicated in individuals that have a hypersensitivity to Amoxicillin or any inactive ingredient present in the medication. Amoxicillin is a penicillin and should not be given to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. penicillins, cephalosporins).

Generic Amoxil Capsules - Dosage and Administration

Generic Amoxil (Novamox Capsules) should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water. Amoxicillin has to be taken till you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. Stopping amoxicillin too soon may cause bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.
The recommended adult dosage for some indications is given below:
Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (due to streptococci, pneumococci, non-penicillinase-producing staphylococci and H. influenzae); Genito-Urinary Tract Infections (due to Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and Strep. faecalis); Skin And Soft Tissue Infections (due to streptococci, sensitive staphylococci and Escherichia coli): The normal adult dosage is 250 mg every 8 hours. In severe infections or those caused by less susceptible organisms, 500 mg every 8 hours is recommended for adults.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (due to streptococci, pneumococci, non-penicillinase producing staphylococci and Haemophilus influenzae):
Adults: 500 mg every 8 hours.
Urethritis (due to Neisseria gonorrhoea):
Adults: 3g as single dose.
Acute, Uncomplicated Lower Urinary Tract Infections (due to Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Strep. faecalis, non-penicillinase producing staphylococci):
Adults: 3g as a single dose.

Generic Amoxil Capsules – Overdosage

In case of overdosage, discontinue the medicine immediately. The patient should be treated symptomatically, and supportive measures should be instituted as required. If the overdosage is very recent and there is no contraindication, an attempt at emesis or other means of removal of Amoxicillin from the stomach may be performed.

Generic Amoxil Capsules – Side Effects

Common side effects of Novamox Capsules (Generic Amoxil) include upset stomach, vomiting and diarrhea. Please inform your doctor immediately in case you experience any of the following serious side effects: Severe skin rash, hives, seizures, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual bleeding or bruising, pale skin, excessive tiredness or lack of energy
