Canesten Vaginal Cream – Product Information

Canesten Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream is used to to treat a fungal infection in the vagina and vulval area (thrush). It also relieves external vulvar itching and irritation associated with a yeast infection. Candida albicans is a yeast fungus that can multiply rapidly and cause damage to the vagina when other micro-organisms aren't present in a normal balance. Some situations which can increase susceptibility to thrush are Diabetes, Obesity, Illness, Fatigue, Hormonal fluctuations (pregnancy, menstrual cycle, oral contraceptive pill, HRT), Prolonged use of antibiotics or steroids.
Canesten Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream contains 20 mg/g (2% w/w) of clotrimazole in a vanishing cream base. The cream also contains benzyl alcohol (1% w/w) and purified water.

Dosage And Administration

Apply a thin layer of Canesten Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream and gently massage sufficient cream into the affected and surrounding skin areas twice daily.

Canesten Vaginal Cream - Side Effects

The common side effects of Canesten Vaginal Cream are blisters, discomfort/pain, oedema, irritation, peeling/exfoliation, pruritis, rash, stinging/burning. Genital peeling, pruritis, rash, oedema, discomfort, burning, irritation, pelvic pain and abdominal pain. Serious side effects include allergic reactions.Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include swelling of the parts of the body to which treatment has been applied; rash, itching or hives on the skin.

Canesten Vaginal Cream – Warnings and Precautions

Canesten Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream is for vaginal or external vulvar use only. Do not use this medication if you have abdominal pain, fever or a foul-smelling vaginal discharge.
This medication is contraindicated in patients which have a hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole or any inactive ingredient present in the preparation. It is also contraindicated in children less than 12 years of age.
Please ask your doctor befor using this medicine if you have vaginal or vulvar itching and discomfort for the first time. If you have had a doctor diagnose a vaginal yeast infection before and have the same symptoms now, use this cream as directed for 7 days in a row.
Also please ask your doctor if you get symptoms that return within 2 months or infections that do not clear up easily with proper treatment. You could be pregnant, or there could be a serious underlying medical cause for your infections, including diabetes or a damaged immune system.
Stop using Canesten Vaginal Cream and ask a doctor if symptoms do not get better in 3 days or infection isn't gone in 7 days. You may have a condition other than a yeast infection.
When using this product do not use tampons.
