Generic Aldara Cream (Imiquad 5% Cream) – Product Information

Generic Aldara Cream (Imiquad 5% Cream, manufactured by Gracewell) is an immune response modifier for topical administration. Generic Aldara Cream is used for the topical treatment of Clinically typical, nonhyperkeratotic, nonhypertrophic actinic keratoses (AK) on the face or scalp in immunocompetent adults.
Biopsy-confirmed, primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) in immunocompetent adults when surgical methods are medically less appropriate and patient follow-up can be reasonably assured.
External genital and perianal warts/condyloma acuminata in patients 12 years old or older.

Generic Aldara Cream - Active Ingredient

The active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Generic Aldara Cream is Imiquimod.
Each 0.25 gram single sachet of Imiquad Cream contains 12.5 mg of imiquimod in an off-white oil-in-water vanishing cream base.

Generic Aldara Cream (Imiquad 5% Cream) - Contraindications

Generic Aldara Cream is contraindicated in patients with the following conditions:

  • Generic Aldara Cream is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to imiquimod or inactive ingredients present in the cream.

Imiquad 5% Cream - Dosage

The dosage for various indications is given below:
Actinic keratosis: 2 times per week for a full 16 weeks
Superficial basal cell carcinoma: 5 times per week for a full 6 weeks.
External genital warts (EGW): 3 times per week until total clearance or a maximum of 16 weeks
Generic Aldara cream is to be applied prior to normal sleeping hours, and left on the skin for 6-10 hours. Hand washing before and after cream application is recommended.
Imiquimod 5% cream is packaged in single use packets which contain sufficient cream to cover an area of up to 20 cm2. A thin layer of the cream is applied to the affected area and rubbed in until the cream is no longer visible.

Side Effects of Generic Aldara Cream

The most common possible side effects reported in patients treated with Generic Aldara Cream with an incidence rate 28% or more are application site reactions or local skin reactions: itching, burning, erythema, flaking/scaling/dryness, scabbing/crusting, edema, induration, excoriation, erosion, ulceration.
The other reported Side Effects of Imiquad 5% Cream with Incidence rate 1% or more include fatigue, fever, and headache.
