Migraine Headache Relief using Generic Imitrex

What is a Migraine Headache?

Migraine is a chronic disorder that is thought to involve abnormal functioning of the brain's blood vessels.Migraines cause severe pain on one or both sides of the head, upset stomach, nausea, and, at times, disturbed vision. Persons who have experienced migraines have described migraine pain as pulsing or throbbing in one area of the head. During migraines, people become very sensitive to light and sound.

Generic Imitrex Tablets - Product Information

Generic Imitrex (Suminat tablets manufactured by Sun Pharma) are used for the acute relief of migraine attacks with or without aura. Generic Imitrex tablets should not be used for prevention of migraine headaches.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended adult dose of oral Imitrex is a single 50mg tablet which has to be administered as early as possible after the onset of a migraine headache. Some patients may require 100 mg. A second dose should only be considered if some response to the first dose was observed. The doses should be by separated by at least 2 hours. The maximum dosage in a 24-hour period is 200 mg.
The maximum single dose in patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment should not exceed 50 mg. It is equally effective irrespective of the stage of the migraine attack. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Generic Imitrex Tablets - Contraindications

Generic Imitrex (Suminat Tablets) are contraindicated in persons that have a hypersensitivity to Sumatriptan Succinate or any other component of the medicine. Imitrex Tablets should not be given to patients with history, symptoms, or signs of ischemic cardiac, cerebrovascular, or peripheral vascular syndromes. In addition, patients with other significant underlying cardiovascular diseases should not be administered Imitrex Tablets. Imitrex Tablets are also contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Side Effects of Generic Imitrex Tablets

The common side effects of Generic Imitrex (Suminat Tablets) are dyspnoea, nausea, vomiting, feeling of sleepiness, dizziness or tiredness, sensations of heaviness, feelings of weakness, fatigue, pain, tingling, heat or flushing in any part of the body, sensations of heat or cold, pressure or tightness, problems with your eyesight, feeling of faintness or "pass out", shaking or tremors and shortness of breath.
Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects after taking Generic Imitrex:
feel heaviness, pressure or tightness in any part of the body including the chest or throat
feel irregular heartbeats - too fast or too slow
have a fit or convulsion
have wheezing, swelling of the lips or mouth, difficulty in breathing, hayfever, lumpy rash ("hives") or fainting.
These side effects are likely to be serious. Stop taking Generic Imitrex (Suminat Tablets) and seek medical attention immediately.
